The Father of  Free  Education

              Dr. C.W.W.Kannangara’s dedicated service to the peple of this country is seen in the reforms that he brought about in education , as the minister of education. His greatest contribution was the introduction of free education to all in our country. The establishment of central schools was a great achievement in providing high quality education  free to the talented children of the masses.

            Dr.Kannangara said,}Isay it’s the pearl of great price’. Sell all that you have and buy it for the benefit of the whole country. We shall be able to say that we found education the patrimony of the rich and cultural heritance of the poor~. Refering to the cultural heritage of the cultural heritage of the past, he said, } The education that prevailed in this country for about 2000 years  was absolutely free.~ His reforms provide education free from the Kindergarten to the university in the ancient tradition of a liberal education. He was deeply committed to the cause of  serving the country and it’s peple.
